It is our honor to nominate Mr. Bobby Marshall of Holiday Inn Hurstbourne for the 2009 Rose Award. Bobby is an important part of our hotel staff. It has been a true pleasure to witness Bobby’s true acts of kindness for not only our guests but towards his fellow staff members as well. In order to better illustrate Bobby’s contribution to our staff and guests, allow me to elaborate on just some of his accomplishments.
Born in Eagle Station, KY, Bobby was the youngest of nine children. Having survived life with 8 siblings, Bobby now has three children of his own and four grandchildren. He is lucky to share this happiness with his wife of 34 years Sue. Bobby has been very involved with the community’s youth participating in such activities as Coaching Fern Creek Little League for 21 years and being the President of the Athletic Booster Club. Other accomplishments include; twice governor approved for The Honorable Order of KY Colonels. Bobby served 41 years with CSX Railroad. Attended George Meany School of Labor where he received The George Meany award in Washington DC and was presented with the Arkansas Travelers Award by former President Bill Clinton. Bobby achieved the 1983 Labor Ambassador Certificate through the Labor Commission. He was also invited to Bill Clinton’s inauguration by a Congressman.
Some of his achievements at Holiday Inn Hurstbourne include receiving the Constant Caring Friend of the Month Award and received the Wow Award on five separate occasions. The Wow Award is presented to the employee who receives the most positive feedback from our guests. Some of the feedback we have received for Bobby includes consistently portraying courtesy and respect that goes above and beyond. Bobby once transported a guest from the airport who was feeling ill. When the guest arrived at our hotel she asked for peanuts. The peanuts that were offered by the hotel were not to her taste. As Bobby witnessed this, he drove to the store and bought the ill guest her favorite brand peanuts. The guest was highly impressed with his eagerness to help her without being asked. This is just one small example of Bobby’s work ethic. It is like instinct for Bobby to assist anywhere or anyone when there is a need. It is his willingness to help others that exemplifies not only a great staff member but an awesome human being.
It is for these reasons and so much more that Bobby Marshall is being recognized for his service excellence. The mission statement of Holiday Inn Hurstbourne is “Service is a Cheerful Giving of Attention to our Internal and External Guests” and Bobby Marshall does exactly that.
